Money Changers

Have you ever been to the moneychanger? At some places, the rates are awful! Singapore $1 for Malaysian RM2.2?? ROBBERY! And how about when the money changer rounds down the total amount you’re supposed to get? Instead of $502 you get only $500? UNFAIR!

True as that is, some money changers are fair and good value! But they’re incredibly hard to find and you have to know where to find them. I had a revelation this week after thinking about moneychangers… God is a moneychanger! Why? How? Read on…

God is a moneychanger

At times it seems that life shortchanges us. We feel that God isn’t there or God isn’t watching out for us. Thing is, God’s been there all the time! It’s just that we didn’t notice. (Doh!)

Sometimes, we get shortchanged in life, and it’s inevitable. A moneychanger rounds down your final exchange amount, GST, ERP, school fees, cashiers giving you wrong change! Life is full of twists and turns, life is unpredictable and life is short. In life, we also have to make choices on a day to day basis. Sometimes, we need to choose between what is right and wrong. Problem is, what’s wrong feels so right and what’s right feels so wrong. Still following me so far? =)

Let me clarify. Essentially, at times in your life you might feel that you need to make a choice between right and wrong. Problem being that what seems the right thing to do, feels as if you’re being shortchanged. Also, what’s wrong is well, wrong. But you feel that you stand to benefit more. I faced that choice this week. Trapped at the crossroads and not knowing which would be better for me to choose. Geez, how then?

I realised this week, there is a 3 step plan to get yourself up and onto the right track!

1. Read your bible!

How do we know right from wrong in the first place? By whose standards are we comparing these choices to? What rules do we follow?

God gave us the bible for us to teach, preach, correct and rebuke. This handy sidekick can definitely help guide us on what God’s standards are and where to stand!

2. Pray!

Asking God for the strength to make the right choice (and stick to it, of course) is important! Sometimes, we can make the choice with our heads. But when push comes to shove, we chicken out in action. Behaviour can not be changed without a change in attitude and belief. Ask God for the strength to make AND stick to the right choice!

3. Lights, camera.. ACTION!

Once we’ve made the choice in our heads and our hearts, it’s time for action! Once we follow through with the right choice as directed by God, God will never, ever shortchange us. I made that choice this week and found that I had the peace of God when I took action. No feelings of nervousness or sadness or anything else. Just peace. (and of course the happiness that I made the right choice according to God’s will!)

Final thoughts

Well, if God was a moneychanger, the wonderful thing is that God’s moneychanger stall is open 24/7. Not only that, you don’t need to travel anywhere! You just call the Jesus hotline! (I.e. Pray!) God’s always there for us and willing to help. When we make the right choices according to God’s will and God’s word, He is pleased and will reward us according to His will! God’s exchange rate is more than we expect and deserve.

God, the money changer. He always gives us more than we deserve. He always gives us more than we expect. He never shortchanges us.

Cheers,
The Als
